Dr. Osman’s current focus is on communication with parents and families of children with complex health needs, exploring issues related to quality of life, and the benefits and limitations of medical interventions and technological dependency. He also has a particular interest in health inequalities.
Biography
Dr Osman graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in 1993. In 1998, after achieving MRCP/MRCPCH, Dr Osman secured a national training number and trained in Norwich before accepting a Clinical Lecturer position at the University of Aberdeen. He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Respiratory and General Paediatrics, having worked at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, and completing a two-year fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada 2006-2008. He returned to Aberdeen as a Senior Research Fellow submitting his MD. From 2009 to 2022, Dr Osman served as a Consultant at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where he pioneered the development of Sleep and Long-Term Ventilation services, including a “one-stop shop” clinic for children with multiple comorbidities. He also provided care in the Cystic Fibrosis and General Respiratory services.
Currently, at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Dr. Osman is honoured to work with the Cystic Fibrosis, Sleep, and Long-Term Ventilation teams, delivering care to children across the North-West region.
Dr. Osman was the Clinical Lead from 2011 to 2015, and later served as Clinical Director for Medical, Surgical, and Neonatal services from 2015 to 2016. From 2016 to 2020, he was an Associate Postgraduate Dean, acting as Career Lead for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in North-East Scotland. He organised symposia on contemporary issues in medical training hosted by the NHS Education Scotland Conference in Edinburgh with oversubscribed attendances. He was also responsible for co-authoring the Career Strategy for Medical Trainees in Scotland with fellow Career Leads from clinical and academic backgrounds.
