The Manchester Clinical Research Facility at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) is one of only a handful of specialist clinical research facilities for children across the UK and was established over a decade ago.

The CRF at RMCH delivers complex early phase and first in human experimental medicine research across a wide range of paediatric disease areas and specialities.  It offers 24/7 inpatient and outpatient services; is staffed by experienced specialists in children’s care, consisting of nurse managers, research nurses and research practitioners with great expertise in both research studies and clinical practice.

The Clinical Research Facility is an 11 bedded facility including three single rooms and two inpatient bays, which incorporates a fully equipped and purpose-built audiology booth, treatment room, playroom, and adolescent “Chill out” room. The paediatric participants can be aged between 0-18 years and are recruited both nationally and globally.

Exposure to the research we undertake in the CRF, alongside our comprehensive education programmes, is integral to a deeper understanding of the process any medication goes through prior to being licenced, as well as the exposure to the extensive Research and Innovation structure embedded throughout MFT
