Biography
Mr Matthew Nixon is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, specialising in paediatric upper limb surgery. He provides a tertiary referral service for children with complex conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. His clinical interests include congenital upper limb differences, Madelung’s deformity, radial dysplasia, post-traumatic deformity, cerebral palsy, spasticity, obstetric brachial plexus palsy, paediatric shoulder instability and complex upper limb reconstruction.
He works closely with hand therapists, plastic surgeons, neurologists and other orthopaedic colleagues to provide multidisciplinary care for children and families. His practice includes both non-operative assessment and complex reconstructive surgery, with a focus on improving function, comfort, appearance and long-term development.
Mr Nixon has undertaken specialist fellowship training in upper limb and paediatric orthopaedic surgery, including in Wrightington, Hong Kong and Stockholm. He has published and lectured widely on paediatric orthopaedics and upper limb conditions.
