Specialist Paediatric IV Therapy Practitioners

We currently provide the following services for children and young people being treated at RMCH:

• Venepuncture
• Cannulation
• Midline Insertion
• Desensitization for needle phobia patients

Paediatric Safehold where necessary if every possible alternative has been explored

Teaching

We act as a resource for all healthcare professionals providing Informal /formal teaching with regards IV Therapy practice.

Our formal study days include the ‘Introduction to Paediatric IV Therapy’ for newly qualified nurses, the ‘IV Update’ for experienced nursing staff and the ‘Venepuncture and Cannulation’ study day for all relevant staff including external candidates.

Service development

The team is involved in the procurement of new products, development of policies and guidelines in line with best clinical practice.
