Biography

Trained at St Andrews and Manchester, qualified in Year 1988, followed by junior doctor training in the North West. Appointed as Consultant Urological Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1999 and then  subspecialised in endourology. Continued the work of Steve Payne in providing percutaneous surgery for kidney stones and then introduced flexible ureterorenoscopy for kidney stones. Underwent training and mentorship under the supervision of BAUS to learn laparoscopic kidney procedures. Has become a regional expert in minimally invasive surgery for kidney cancer, pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction, retroperitoneal fibrosis and ureteric strictures. Was committee member for the BAUS section of Endourology and then honorary secretary of the section. Has mentored other consultants around the region to maximise patient access to minimally invasive surgery.
