Biography
Dr Mukherjee qualified in India in 1995 from Medical College, Calcutta and underwent postgraduate training in Paediatrics. He completed his UK CCT training as a subspecialty grid trainee in neonatology at the South Thames London rotation. Dr Mukherjee has a special interest in cardiology, with primary expertise in functional echocardiography, regional and neonatal haemodynamics. He also specialises in neonatal POCUS to guide real-time diagnosis and management of fragile newborns.
Dr Mukherjee is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and serves as an academic advisor for medical students. He is a member of the Paediatricians with Expertise in Cardiology Special Interest Group (PECSIG) and has been elected as an executive member of the BAPM-endorsed NeoFOCUS-UK. Dr Mukherjee is accredited in Congenital Heart Disease Echocardiography by the EACVI, endorsed by the European Society of Cardiology. He independently conducts Neonatal Heart Review Clinics and participates as a faculty member for neonatal echocardiography courses throughout the United Kingdom.
As the Research Lead for Newborn Services in Manchester, Dr Mukherjee has held the position of Principal Investigator for multiple National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)-funded studies and possesses a substantial portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has conducted a randomised controlled trial, thereby enhancing the local research initiatives. Dr Mukherjee teaches point-of-care ultrasound and echocardiography to neonatologists and trainees and serves as a Newborn Life Support instructor in the UK.
