Biography

Ms Mary Coleman is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, having been appointed in 2024. She completed her higher specialty training in Manchester, specialising in head and neck oncology, following earlier training in Oxford and Dublin. She subsequently undertook a Fellowship in Paediatric Craniofacial Surgery at Alder Hey Hospital, which continues to inform her approach to complex reconstruction, optimising functional outcomes, and providing long-term patient care.

She is the Clinical Lead for Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction within the OMFS Managed Single Service at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Her specialist interests include head and neck oncology, microvascular free tissue transfer, 3D reconstruction, facial reanimation, vascular anomalies, and paediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery.

She is strongly committed to education, research, and service development, and is actively involved in teaching, training, and mentoring across the specialty, including medical and dental students at the University of Manchester. She also serves on the faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Training the Trainers course, further demonstrating her dedication to surgical education and training.
