Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be overwhelming, but our experienced and compassionate Breast Care Nurse team will support you throughout your treatment and beyond.
At The Nightingale Centre, our specialist Breast Care Nurses work in small teams that support patients throughout their breast cancer journey. Working in this way allows us to provide consistent, responsive care while ensuring there is always a member of the team available to offer advice, support and guidance when needed. Following your results appointment, a member of the team will discuss your diagnosis and treatment plan with you, answer any questions and help you understand the information you have received.
You will receive a personalised information pack containing details of your diagnosis, treatment plan and sources of support. This can be used as a helpful reference throughout your treatment journey. You will also be provided with contact details for the Breast Care Nursing Team should you have any questions or concerns. If the nurse you have previously spoken with is unavailable, another member of the team will be happy to assist or arrange for a call back.
Our Breast Care Nurses are involved throughout key stages of your treatment pathway and provide ongoing practical, emotional and psychological support. We aim to ensure you have access to a familiar member of the team whenever possible. Even after your treatment has been completed, you will continue to have access to Breast Care Nursing support throughout your follow-up care.
We recognise that breast cancer and its treatment can have a significant impact on both physical and emotional wellbeing. Our team can help you access a range of support services tailored to your individual needs, including:
- Emotional and psychological support
- Information and support groups
- Breast reconstruction advice and information
- Breast prosthesis services
- Lymphoedema support
- Support for people from diverse cultural backgrounds and communities
- Signposting to local and national cancer support organisations, including Macmillan Cancer Support
Breast Prosthesis Service
Our Breast Prosthesis Service offers personalised advice and support following breast surgery, including guidance on breast prostheses, bra fitting and garment selection.
Referrals can be made by your Breast Care Nurse, consultant, GP or other healthcare professionals involved in your care. The service aims to help patients feel comfortable, confident and supported following treatment.
