Biography

Deborah Ferguson is a full-time paediatric neurosurgeon at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.  She completed her adult and paediatric neurosurgical training in the Scottish Deanery which was followed by a fellowship at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.  She was appointed to this current post in 2019.

Deborah, alongside her general neurosurgical practice, has special interests in antenatal care, complex hydrocephalus and spinal dysraphism where she established an MDT spina bifida clinic at RMCH. She organises an annual Charity Sports Day for Children with Spinal Dysraphism.

She has a strong interest in education and has previously held positions within the deanery including ARCP Support Lead and ARCP Panel member. She is an active Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor to trainees in the Northwest. She also regularly examines medical students in their clinical exams. She is currently the regional Training Programme Director. She also has a role at the Royal College of Surgeons of England as a Quality Assurance assessor.

She has held leadership roles including Clinical Lead in Transformation prior to undertaking a tenure as Associate Medical Director.
