Improved facilities at Trafford Urgent Care Centre

Patients who attend the Trafford Urgent Care Centre (UCC) and Walk-in Centre at Trafford General Hospital can now benefit from a smart new reception area and a larger waiting room with seating for 50 people.

Since launching last year, the integrated urgent care facility provides a single ‘front door’ and a single assessment process, where patients are directed to the most appropriate part of the service.  The service is staffed by a team of experienced advanced and emergency nurse practitioners including a consultant nurse, among other clinicians, and GPs.  It is open between the hours of 8am and 8pm, seven days a week.

The Trafford Urgent Care Centre continues to be a popular choice for local people, with an average of 70 people presenting every day over the course of a week, with a wide range of illnesses and injuries requiring immediate attention.  People are normally seen quite promptly by a clinician, usually within an hour of arrival.

The service is provided by Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and funded, on behalf of the people of Trafford, by Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group.

Dr Jon Simpson, CMFT’s Clinical Head of Medicine and Community Services said: said: “The Trafford Urgent Care Centre provides Trafford patients with a safe and effective service that meets their urgent care needs. Providing a single point of access takes away any confusion about where’s best to go for patients.

“The new front-of-house facilities will help to create a positive experience for our patients.”

People requiring care after 8pm are advised to use the free-to-call NHS 111 non-emergency medical helpline to be directed to the most appropriate place; or call 999 in a medical emergency, if someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
