Five Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) clinicians are among 15 outstanding individuals announced by Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), part of Health Innovation Manchester, as Honorary Clinical Chairs for 2024.
The MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs are awarded on an annual basis by The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health Promotions Committee. They are awarded to individuals who have made a major contribution to their clinical specialty, including excellence in research and education.
MAHSC is designated as an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) by NHS England and NHS Improvement and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). It brings together MFT, The University of Manchester, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, and the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust to undertake world-leading research to tackle diseases, develop new treatments and transform patient care.

The new MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs at MFT for 2024 are:
- Anand Pillai, Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon, Clinical Director Trauma and Orthopaedics, Wythenshawe Hospital
- Laura Hancock, Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, MFT
- Michelle Harvie, Lead Research Dietician at the Prevent Breast Cancer Research Unit, MFT and Programme Lead for the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre’s Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Theme
- Peter Barry, Consultant Respiratory Physician, MFT
- Sarah Wallace OBE, Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, Wythenshawe Hospital
