The department has a particular expertise in the care and management of children and young people with neuromuscular conditions.  A joint satellite clinic with the neurology team at Leeds General Infirmary is held quarterly.

The Specialist Nurses hold nurse-led clinics for pre-operative assessment, ward discharge, monitoring with surface imaging and magnetic rod lengthening. They are also responsible for the conservative management of infantile idiopathic scoliosis, including the serial plaster-casting programme. A multidisciplinary approach to care is provided by clinicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and orthotists.  All spinal management, care and  treatment  is carried out at RMCH.
