MOC is part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) which was established on 1st October 2017 following the merger of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) to become one of the largest Foundation Trusts in the UK.
MOC is recognised as a North West joint replacement and shoulder surgery centre. Since opening in 2013, MOC has gained a reputation as a centre of excellence, for treating patients with excellent outcomes, low complication rates and high patient satisfaction.
Other subspecialties include young adult hip service, soft tissue, foot and ankle procedures, soft tissue tumours and hand procedures.
Our objective is to be a world leader in orthopaedic care using innovation, research and education to provide the highest quality experience for all our patients. At MOC we are committed to minimising infection rates, other potential complications and the length of stay in hospital.
At Trafford and Wythenshawe Hospital we follow an Enhanced Recovery Programme for our patient undergoing a joint replacement. The Enhanced Recovery Programme is designed to support physical recovery – for example, restoring function, strength and range of movement – as well as minimising physiological stress to the organs and major systems during surgery. Importantly, it also recognises the importance of the psychological aspects of recovery, offering information and support that helps patients to make informed choices at every stage of their treatment journey. After surgery, the Enhanced Recovery Programme focuses on getting patients out of bed and moving their new joint as soon as possible, supported by effective pain relief. This approach is backed up by a multitude of research papers, which have shown that the earlier a person gets out of bed and starts walking, eating, and drinking after their operation, the faster their rehabilitation is likely to be and the better their outcome from surgery.
At Trafford and Wythenshawe Hospital we are committed to ensuring the care we provide to our patients is safe. As part of our Enhanced Recovery Programme we have designed a virtual Joint Replacement Education Programme that can be accessed through the links on this webpage. The virtual programme provides you with unlimited access to all of the information you will need from the comfort and safety of your own home about your joint replacement surgery and your aftercare. There is a variety of both video and written content to prepare you for your surgery and recovery following your surgery.
