RMCH Theatres provide a comprehensive service to newborn babies, children and adolescents aged from 0-16 years of age.
Our hospital admits patients referred from other hospitals who require general and specialist services; some of these patients will require planned and emergency treatment. They will predominantly be from the Greater Manchester area, but children may be referred to us from any geographical location from the entire North West region.

Specialities we provide include General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Cardiac Catheters, Radiological procedures, Urology, Renal, ENT, Burns and Plastics, Oncology, Neurological Surgery, Endoscopy and Haematology, Gastroenterology, Cleft Lip and Palate surgery, Dental/Oral surgery, Spinal Surgery, Renal Transplantation, Nephrology, Medical, Rheumatology, as well as a Ponseti Clinic, management of complex airways (MPS) and a wide range of minimally invasive procedures.
Where will my child be treated?
In addition to RMCH, our Theatres team provides a General Anaesthetic service for children at Trafford General Hospital, Salford Royal Paediatric Angiogram Suite, Manchester Eye Hospital and the Christie Proton Beam Centre. There are a number of satellite areas within RMCH where children have treatment that requires a general anaesthetic – for example an MR Scan, interventional treatment in the X-ray department, Oncology Unit and Cardiac Catheter Suite.
The theatre teams within the Operating Department aim to provide a high quality service supported by a highly skilled medical and multidisciplinary workforce, in a reliable and safe environment. We endeavour to ensure resources, facilities and time are used efficiently to give our patients the best possible experience.
