Colorectal Surgery and Stoma Care

The Stoma Care Department is a specialist service offering information, education, and counselling for all the people living in Trafford with a stoma, both new and established.  They support patients with nurse led clinics, community visits and telephone contacts.

Our nurse led clinic provides:

  • Pre-operative and post-operative specialist stoma care
  • Ongoing support to all ostomates based in Trafford, regardless of how long they have been living with a stoma
  • Practical help and lifestyle advice
  • Advice on diet and nutrition
  • Prescription guidance in collaboration with GPs
  • Colostomy irrigation information, advice, and teaching
  • Parastomal hernia assessment and support garment measuring
  • Psychological and sexual advice
  • Support group information and networking

The Clinical Nurse Specialists also provide teaching to families, carers, and other healthcare professions both in hospital and in the Trafford community.


Location

The service is based at Trafford General Hospital in the Park Unit (Entrance 8), but the team also runs a satellite clinic at Altrincham Hospital every Wednesday afternoon.

All reviews are on an appointment only basis.

The Stoma Specialist Nurses also work throughout Trafford community to serve all ostomates recovering from surgery or housebound.

The service only works through appointment and doesn’t offer an on-call service.
