Orthodontics (NMGH)

Important Notice – March 2020

We are sorry that we are having to suspend current Orthodontic Services at NMGH and FGH due to the current COVID 19 emergency.

We are attempting to contact as many patients as possible by phone to provide advice.

If you’ve not had a call we are including the following information:

We are intending to resume the service but this may take 3-6+ months and as such your appointment may be rescheduled.

The major consequence of this suspension is that the overall duration of your treatment will be extended however, you can help to reduce the other risks by ensuring you maintain good brushing and have minimal / eliminate all sugary snacks and fizzy drinks during your treatment.

We are recommending all patients stop wearing their elastics as a course however we accept that some patients fully understand the bite we are aiming for and if you feel confident you can continue to wear blue or green elastics during the night only. If the elastics are red or there is any doubt it would be preferable to stop wearing elastics.

Unfortunately we are currently unable to remove appliances or replace loose/ lost brackets.

Please defer any planned orthodontic extractions until the service resumes.

If you are wearing retainers or removable appliances please continue.

If you have an emergency or need to contact the department please ring the broken brace phone line:

North Manchester – 0161 922 3754

Please speak slowly and clearly remembering to leave your name and number so that we can call you back, however, this may take up to 48 hrs.

You can also contact us by email orthodontics.north@pat.nhs.uk

We will aim to offer you advice over the phone if possible to minimise the number of patients attending the hospital and can post you other items such as wax as required.

Please stay safe

Best wishes from the Orthodontic Department
