In June 2026, we will be opening a new purpose-built Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Withington Community Hospital, improving access to essential diagnostic services for communities across Manchester and Trafford.
Designed to provide patients with quicker and more convenient access to tests closer to home, the state-of-the-art facility will enable people to receive multiple diagnostic tests during a single visit, helping to reduce waiting times, minimise journeys to hospital and support earlier diagnosis and treatment.
Once operational, the CDC will be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering approximately 129,000 diagnostic tests this year. By expanding diagnostic capacity outside of acute hospital settings, the centre will reduce the need for patients to travel to one of our major hospitals and ensure care is provided in the most appropriate setting.
Patients will be able to access services at the CDC following referral from their GP or another healthcare professional, with appointments arranged through MFT’s booking teams.
The Manchester and Trafford CDC at Withington Community Hospital will provide a range of diagnostic services, including:
- Audiology
- Capsule Endoscopy
- Cardiology
- CT
- DEXA
- Head and Neck
- MR
- Ophthalmology
- Phlebotomy
- Respiratory
- Sleep studies
- Ultrasound
- Urology
The Manchester and Trafford CDC at Withington Community Hospital will also be the home to innovative one-stop diagnostic pathways including our Children and Young Person’s Asthma Diagnostic Pathway, and two cancer diagnostic pathways: Haematuria and Neck Lump. These pathways reduce the amount of visits a patient needs to make and the amount of time it takes to receive a diagnosis.
The new facility builds on the opening of the North Manchester CDC in Harpurhey and the recently opened CDC in Gorton – further strengthening access to diagnostic services across our communities.
