The Chaplaincy Service provides spiritual, pastoral and religious support to all patients, visitors and staff. They care for you by:
- Respecting the faith, religion or non-religious world-view to which you subscribe;
- Sharing what gives you hope;
- Offering compassionate care;
- Discovering what helps you cope;
- Helping you find strength in uncertainty;
- Valuing what is important to you.
The team visit the wards regularly are always ready to talk and to listen to people, whether they are religious or not. The Trust employs Chaplains from the Church of England, Roman Catholic and Free Church traditions, as well as Chaplains from the Jewish and Muslim faiths. They can also contact faith leaders of other world religions.
We have dedicated prayer spaces and quiet spaces within the hospitals and regular services of worship are held. If you would like to talk to a Chaplain, or for details of service times, please see below or ask the ward staff.
If you are an inpatient and unable to get to one of the services, then a Chaplain will come to your bedside upon request. Your own priest, imam or minister can also visit you in hospital if you wish.

Central Site
The Multi-faith Centre is located on the ground floor of the new Manchester Royal Infirmary by Entrance 2, off the Hospital Boulevard. We provide a large multi-purpose space for prayer and worship with a range of services throughout the week.
There are two Multi Faith Prayer Rooms in the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. One is on the ground floor opposite the Children’s Outpatients Department and the other is on the first floor near to Paediatric Intensive Care.
A Shabbos Facility is available for the Jewish Community in the ground floor Multi Faith Prayer Room in the Children’s Hospital.
You’ll usually find a chaplain on duty in the Multi Faith Centre between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm on a weekday. If you would like to receive bedside Communion, please contact the Chaplaincy on 0161 276 8792. Details of services and other activities are displayed on the electronic notice board at the entrance to the Multi Faith Centre.
A Church of England Communion Service takes place every Wednesday 12.15pm and Sunday 10am in the Multi Faith Centre.
A Roman Catholic Mass is held every Tuesday 12.15pm and Sunday 2.00pm in the Multi Faith Centre.
Muslim Jumma Prayers are held in the Multi Faith Centre every Friday – please check the notice boards for correct times.
Trafford General Hospital
At Trafford General Hospital, a Christian Chapel known as St. Luke’s and a Muslim Prayer Room is available on the ground floor opposite Ward 1. If you would like to receive bedside Communion, please contact the Chaplaincy on 0161 276 8792. Details of services and other activities are displayed on the notice board in St. Luke’s Chapel.
A Roman Catholic Mass is held on the second Friday of each month at 12.30pm in St. Luke’s Chapel.
