Biography

Karen Ward graduated from Newcastle University in 1990 and trained in the Northern Region. She completed sub-specialty training in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2006.

She was appointed as a Consultant Gynaecologist to Liverpool Women’s Hospital in 2006 and moved to St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester in 2011.

Karen Ward works in the Warrell Unit, the North-West tertiary centre for pelvic floor disorders. She is Clinical Lead for the North-West Mesh Complications Service.

She was the topic lead for Incontinence on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guideline committee for urinary incontinence and prolapse and was a member of the Pelvic Floor Dysfunction guideline committee. She was part of the NICE group developing patient decisions aids for surgical management of incontinence, prolapse and mesh complications.

She is current Chair of the British Society of Urogynaecology.
