MFT is a Centre of Excellence for Research and Development spanning across multiple medical disciplines. As a regional and national centre for specialist clinical services and a major teaching hospital, research and development underpin our philosophy.
Research is the cornerstone of first-class healthcare and is essential to help the NHS to understand which treatments and therapies work best for patients. Our research programmes influence advances in medical care on regional, national and international levels.
The Research and Development Centre at MFT supports and facilitates researchers to carry out high quality research across the Trust’s range of specialities. Our mission is to provide research governance – an agreed way of conducting research that ensures the highest quality research and supports the interests of participating patients, our MFT research colleagues, and the academics from The University of Manchester who have a strong presence in our research programmes. We work in partnership as part of the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), that unites leading healthcare providers with world-class academics and researchers.
We have a responsibility to ensure that research conducted at University of South Manchester Hospitals Trust is compliant with the local and national regulatory framework. The Trust is committed to delivering a research agenda that is responsive to national guidance for clinical excellence, cost-effectiveness, and monitoring and improving quality.
