Because Opportunity Should Be for Everyone - ALL HERE FOR YOU
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), we’re proud to be one of the largest employers in Greater Manchester – and we take that responsibility seriously. Our Community Engagement and Widening Participation programmes are designed to open doors, create opportunities, and build a workforce that truly reflects the communities we serve.
We believe that talent is everywhere, and we’re committed to helping people from all backgrounds take their first steps into a career in health and social care.
Opening Doors
Our dedicated Widening Participation Team works with schools, colleges, community groups, and employment partners to:
- Deliver Insight Days, Career Ambassador sessions, and Work Experience placements
- Support pre-employment programmes including Traineeships and Supported Internships
- Partner with organisations like The King’s Trust to help young people under 30 explore careers in the NHS

Connecting with Communities
We actively engage with local communities across Manchester, Trafford, and Greater Manchester to:
- Promote MFT as an inclusive employer
- Recruit from underrepresented groups
- Address health inequalities by supporting people into good jobs
- Work with partners like DWP, housing associations, and third-sector organisations to reach those furthest from the job market
Creating Pathways
Our programmes are designed to support people at every stage of their journey:
- Sowing Seeds: Insight and inspiration
- Nurturing Growth: Skills and confidence building
- Supporting Progress: Real opportunities for employment and development
Why It Matters
- A more diverse and representative workforce improves patient care
- We help tackle social determinants of health like unemployment and low income
- We create social value by investing in local people
- We support MFT’s role as a civic anchor organisation in Manchester
