Biography
Trained overseas in Kolkata, India (MBBS and DCH), Dr Maitra has been in United Kingdom over two decades and has gained higher qualifications (FRCPCH, MMedSci and MRCP). He has been trained at Bristol Children’s Hospital (where he undertook his research), Sheffield Children’s Hospital (where he undertook tertiary specialist grid training), and has worked as a consultant at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Leicester Children’s Hospital and various overseas institutions before joining Royal Manchester Children’s hospital in 2015.
He is the Director of the Cystic Fibrosis unit (UK’s largest unit) and leads the bronchiectasis and PCD services. Dr Maitra undertakes CF research at RMCH, has reviewed and published in esteemed academic journals (Thorax, BMJ, Clinical Experimental Allergy), presented and chaired at national and international conferences, and is closely associated with pioneering national and international organisations.
