Mr Mohamed Ismail Aly is a Consultant Burns and Plastic Surgeon on the GMC specialist register for Plastic Surgery since 2016. He is based at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General Hospital in Manchester. His areas of interest include acute and critical burn care, burn reconstruction, lasers in plastic surgery, chronic wound management, skin cancer and reconstructive surgery.
Mr Ismail Aly trained as a specialist registrar in plastic surgery in the North East of England in Royal Victoria Infirmary (Newcastle upon Tyne), James Cook University Hospital (Middlesbrough) and University Hospital North Durham (Durham).
His early training in plastic surgery took place in a number of burns and plastic surgery units in England, including Great Ormond Street Hospital for children (London), St Andrews Centre for burns and plastic surgery, Broomfield Hospital (Chelmsford), Lister Hospital (Stevenage) and Frenchay Hospital (Bristol). Also, Mr Ismail Aly completed a critical care and burn surgery fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for children and University of Texas medical branch Galveston, Texas, USA under the supervision of Dr David N Herndon MD FACS.
Mr Ismail Aly also held a laser research fellow post in Bristol at the Laser Centre of the South West and completed a BTEC degree in lasers. He also completed MSc in Aesthetic Surgery from Queen Mary University London and MD(Res) degree from University College London after completing a research fellowship at Blond McLndoe research foundation, Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. He became a member of Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh MRCS(Ed) after examination and is currently a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon in Edinburgh in Plastic Surgery FRCSEd(Plast) after examination. He continues to be involved in burn research activities, teaching and training of plastic surgery trainees.
Mr Ismail Aly is currently the Specialty Lead for Manchester Burns service and Paediatric Plastic Surgery service at RMCH. He is also Associate Medical Director for Medical Education at RMCH.
