There are lots of concerning behaviours that may point towards an eating disorder, and significant weight loss or gain may also be something to be alert to.

Signs and symptoms that somebody may be struggling with an eating disorder include doing things like:

  • Limiting food intake (regularly missing meals, throwing food away, having very small portions) or perhaps eating what most people would agree is a lot of food in a short period of time
  • Being preoccupied with food labels or calories
  • Attempting to control their body weight or shape by engaging in worrying behaviours such as vomiting or excessive exercising
  • Being distressed about their weight or shape or being fearful of gaining weight
  • Being worried or afraid of certain foods or having a very limited range of foods that can be eaten.
