Caring for and supporting a child or young person with an eating disorder can be challenging, and we are regularly told it can feel like a steep learning curve. We understand that the whole family can need support along the journey.

As a service, we view you as parents and carers as integral in supporting your child or young person throughout the treatment process. Our evidence base shows us that this points to better outcomes for recovery, and we therefore seek to involve you as early as possible

This may take a number of forms; one may be practical support, through encouraging your child with their nutritional intake. Another may be your involvement in regular family sessions with the service. As a team, we will walk alongside you and provide you with additional skills, as well as opportunities to think about how the eating disorder is impacting on your capacity to support your child

We also run a regular group where parents and carers can come together to learn skills and share their own experiences.

What our families say about us

“Thank you for teaching me there is more to life than how much you weigh. I am really going to miss you and our sessions, you have had a massive impact over two years of my life and helped me become who I am today”

“The service was really helpful and I have passed on information to other parents that are struggling”

“Every person involved has gone above and beyond to help me understand my child better”

“Those appointments with you meant so much to me they literally saved me. You really listened to me, my story, my thoughts and feelings. You didn’t make me feel like I was an experiment or just another patient or insane. I actually felt seen and heard as my own person and I felt so comfortable and at peace with you.”
