Mr John Kitchen
Paediatric NeurosurgeonBiography
John attended undergraduate studies at the University of Aberdeen and completed his Basic Surgical Training in NHS Grampian. His neurosurgical training was initially at The Institute of Neurological Sciences in Glasgow before moving to train at The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, UK. He completed his Paediatric Neurosurgery fellowship training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, UK.
He spent time in formal academic research at The University of Manchester working within The Brain Injury Research Group investigating neurosurgical aspects of CSF infection.
John’s main areas of clinical interest are neuro-oncology and epilepsy. He has a specialist interest in epilepsy surgery and is a member of the regionally commissioned epilepsy surgery service (Norcess).
John is dedicated to training junior neurosurgeons in the North West. He is an assigned educational supervisor for trainees rotating through the department of neurosurgery.
