Biography

Jonathan Ellenbogen is a Consultant Neurosurgeon working between the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool. His neurosurgical training was undertaken in the Mersey region. This was followed by several sub-speciality fellowships including a paediatric neurosurgery/epilepsy fellowship at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Australia, a functional neurosurgery/epilepsy fellowship at King’s College Hospital, London and a craniofacial fellowship at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool. He was appointed to his current post in 2018.

His specialist interests include epilepsy, movement disorders, tumours and craniofacial surgery. Mr Ellenbogen is the senior epilepsy surgeon in the Northern Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service (NorCESS), and is one of the few neurosurgeons in the UK who has a Deep Brain Stimulation practice for movement disorders in children. Mr Ellenbogen is actively involved in research and teaching as part of the University of Liverpool. He is well published in peer reviewed journals and book chapters, and has presented extensively at national and international congresses/meetings.

Mr Ellenbogen is a member of the British Paediatric Neurosurgery Group (BPNG) and the International Society of Paediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN). He is also a member of both the British and World Societies for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (BSSFN & WSSFN), and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS). He is a Founding Fellow of the Confederation of British Surgery.
