CF Triage Service
Our Cystic Fibrosis Nurse Specialists provide advice, support, treatment and education in the outpatient clinic, on the wards and at home.
We are your first point of contact if you feel unwell or have any worries or concerns about your health.
The triage line will be answered by our triage support assistant, who will assess your enquiry and direct it to the most appropriate member of the CF team. A CF specialist nurse is available during opening hours and will speak to you directly if required.
If you are unable to get through, please leave a voicemail with your name, date of birth, and a brief description of your concern.
Please note: Messages are prioritised based on clinical urgency and you may not receive a call back the same working day.

Zero Tolerance Policy
MFT (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) follows the NHS’s Zero Tolerance Policy, meaning they have a strict “no-nonsense” approach to any violence, aggression, abuse (verbal or physical), or harassment (racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.) against staff, patients, or visitors, ensuring staff can work without fear. This policy includes immediate police involvement, removal from practice lists, and potentially other severe measures for unacceptable behaviour, though they consider patient illness when dealing with challenging situations, aiming for respect and dignity for all.
Planned admissions to Pearce Ward:
If you are listed for admission to Pearce ward, we will plan an initial date for you to come in. You will need to bring your medication and nebuliser with you, should you have one.
On the planned day, we will check with the ward and inform you if a bed will be available. If there is then we will tell you what time we would like you to come to the ward. If we do not have a bed, will try again the following day.
Home Intravenous Therapy Service
We provide a Home Intravenous (IV) Therapy Service, carefully tailored to meet each patient’s individual clinical needs and lifestyle.
Our home IV service allows suitable patients to receive intravenous treatments in the comfort of their own home, reducing the need for hospital visits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and care.
Please note that not all patients will be eligible for this service, as suitability depends on medical assessment and individual circumstances.
If you are interested in learning more or would like to find out whether this service may be appropriate for you, please speak to a member of our team.
Transition to CF Adult Care
Patients are transitioned from paediatric services before the age of 18. They come from across the Northwest region including Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Stepping Hill Hospital, Wigan, Wythenshawe, and Preston.
There are three intakes of new patients each year, March, June and October. You will meet the transition team during your paediatric care. Two new patient appointments will be offered around 2-3 months apart to help you settle into adult care
You will be offered a visit and tour of the adult unit if you wish.
Prior to your first appointment a transition medical document is completed by your Paediatric CF MDT team and sent across to adults. There is then an adult MDT meeting to discuss each new patient before a first appointment is offered.
