Biography

Dr Anwar joined Trafford in January 2011 as Consultant in Elderly Health with sub-specialties in stroke and Parkinson’s disease. He completed his specialist training in elderly health in the North West, spending two years doing pure stroke, including thrombolysis. He also has extensive experience of treating Parkinson’s, is a member of the Parkinson’s Disease Society and has helped organise masterclasses for GPs and hospital clinicians. Before starting his specialist training, Dr Anwar spent three years in cardiology focusing on the care of older people with heart failure and rhythm problems and he can perform echocardiograms. He qualified from Allama Iqbal Medical School in Lahore and has more than 15 years’ postgraduate experience. He has presented papers at national and international conferences and has also published guidelines on the management of stroke patients. He has a special interest in the education and teaching of junior doctors. In his spare time, Dr Anwar enjoys keeping fit by running, playing squash, going to the gym and mountaineering.
