Standing Together in Unity and Compassion

We have all seen the distressing scenes of serious disorder in towns and cities across the country in the last week. Manchester is known for its strong partnership culture, and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has been collaborating closely with Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Police, and other relevant agencies and partners to support them to effectively address disturbances.

At MFT, we are a community of thousands of extraordinary people from various backgrounds, cultures, and religions. Our different skills, knowledge, and values are what unites us and defines who we are, allowing us to effectively do our daily jobs in our hospitals and communities.

We strive to offer outstanding care and support to all those we care for and work with. To do this, we need to support each other to achieve our best. In today’s times, it is more important than ever to ensure the safety and health of every patient, family, and colleague under our care and at our places of work. That is why we are clear in our position; MFT does not tolerate any form of violence or discrimination towards our patients, colleagues and members of our community.

In addition to the disorder, the spread of false information on social media platforms is contributing to the unease and concern people have about the current state of tensions. We are asking everyone to be careful with the information they share because some messages have been deliberately posted with the intention of causing fear, hate, and chaos in our communities. In relation to this, it is important that all patients continue to attend their scheduled appointments, unless instructed otherwise by MFT.

Included within our values, we pride ourselves on being inclusive and compassionate at all times and will take a bold stance against any actions that go against these values. We encourage everyone to join us in making sure no one from the MFT community has to deal with hatred or discrimination.
