An e-rostering phone app is helping doctors at Wythenshawe Hospital to manage shift coverage and annual leave more easily. As a result of the merger to create MFT, this system will be rolled out across all nine hospital sites.
The Medic Online system provides access to rotas by a smartphone app, making it quicker and easier for Junior Doctors and Consultants to book or swap shifts and request annual leave while at work or home.
Christine Tudor, Medical Staffing Manager, said: “We recognise that our doctors have important personal commitments outside work, as all our staff do. This is an easy way to compare shifts and annual leave with partners and book slots at their convenience.”
“Making sure we have enough doctors to cover rotas through the week can be challenging and time-consuming, particularly during holiday periods. The app means managers and rota co-ordinators can see gaps and book any agency staff at a longer lead in time, meaning a more competitive rate and knowledge of shift coverage ensuring that we can deliver patient care.”
The system was already due to be introduced at Wythenshawe Hospital before the merger. Following successful migration across the majority of departments, it will be extended to doctors at Oxford Road Campus, Trafford General Hospital, Altrincham General Hospital and Withington Community Hospital during the coming months. Potential to extend the system to cover other staff groups will be considered once it is in place and subject to funding being available.
