Respiratory (Lung Service)

About the service

We have one of the largest diagnostic lung cancer services in the country, where people are seen within two weeks, but on average within one week. Lung Cancer patients will often have a Computerised Tomography (CT) scan before clinic at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH). The service is supported by colleagues from the Christie and the Thoracic Surgical Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital.

General Respiratory Outpatient appointments and specialist clinics are offered at the NMGH site, including:

  • Lung Cancer – Sue
  • Severe Asthma – Tasha
  • Bronchiectasis – Sue
  • Pleural clinic and Thoracoscopy procedures – Sue
  • Interstitial Lung Disease – Tasha
  • Sleep – Kirsty
  • Occupational Lung Disease – Tasha
  • Respiratory Diagnostics – Kirsty

The Directorate also provides the following services:

  • Home Oxygen Assessment Service – Kirsty
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation – Tasha
  • Home & Community based COPD care – Tasha
  • The brand-new Community Diagnostic Centre based in Harpurhey – Vicki
  • PACAS – Tasha

The service has specialist respiratory inpatient beds. The Trust has a specialist respiratory and physiology diagnostic service offering a range of diagnostic testing.
