The midwives working on AAU provide care in a relaxed environment and are able to provide additional monitoring if needed. They work closely with the obstetric team to allow you to receive care without admission to a hospital ward.
There are three Antenatal Assessment Units (AAUs):

Occasionally we may need to transfer you to Saint Mary’s Hospital for further specialist care.
The sort of problems in pregnancy that might be monitored by the AAUs include:
- Reduced fetal movements.
- Obstetric Cholestasis.
- High blood pressure monitoring.
- Management of prolonged rupture of membranes.
- External cephalic versions (turning of breech babies).
- Intravenous iron infusions for management of serious anaemia.
- Postnatal reviews.
