Who is the service for?

This is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the female reproductive organs. The Gynaecology Service provides a high quality service in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological conditions for patients that are referred in by their GP or as an emergency.

What does the service provide?

The service will provide expertise in:

  • Fertility – Reproductive medicine
  • Urogynaecology
  • Colposcopy and hysteroscopy
  • Post-menopausal bleeding
  • Termination of pregnancy
  • Gynaecological oncology
  • Emergency gynaecology
  • Endometriosis
  • Menopause
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Irregular and/or heavy periods

Who will patients meet while under your department’s/service’s care?

  • Consultant surgeons
  • Junior and trainee medical staff
  • Nurse specialists
  • Nurse
  • Radiology professionals
  • Health care assistants.

When is the service available?

The gynaecology service is available 24 hours a day seven days a week for emergency patients and Monday to Friday for all routine elective inpatient, day case, diagnostic and outpatient procedures or appointments, following referral from your General practitioner.

Where is the service provided?

There is in-patient, day case and emergency surgery undertaken at North Manchester.
