The new development and investment means that the hospital is able to offer a full range of high quality maternity services to women, children and babies including:
- A new children’s day surgery unit
- Kids’ observation and assessment liaison area (KOALA)
- Children’s inpatient unit
- Antenatal ward
- Postnatal ward
- Delivery suite/labour ward and operating theatres
- Neonatal unit/special baby care unit (SCBU)
- New midwife-led birth centre
The facilities offer women and children a modern, bright and spacious environment with a dedicated team of specialist doctors, nurses, midwives and allied staff on hand to provide high quality care. A co-located midwife led unit means that pregnant women are now offered the choice of consultant or midwife led care during their pregnancy.
The large children’s unit on the first floor of the building includes several en-suite rooms and space for parents to stay with their children.
The KOALA unit also provides rapid assessment and observation, offering early discharge where possible, shortening the time that children have to stay in hospital. A 19-bed Special Baby Care Unit also offers specialist care for smaller or premature babies.
