Ophthalmology (NMGH)

Who is the service for?

This service is for all patients referred by their GP/Optician or seen as an emergency with a condition affecting their vision.

What does the service provide?

The service provides eye care for patients with conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, children’s eye conditions, orthoptics, vitreo-retinal conditions, corneal and low vision aids services.

Who will patients meet while under your department’s/service’s care?

  • Nurses and Nurse specialists
  • Health care assistants
  • Consultant Ophthalmologists  and Ophthalmology Doctors
  • Orthoptists

When is the service available?

The Ophthalmology service is available Monday to Friday for all out-patient attendances and emergency cover is provided by out of hours by attending an A & E department.
