What is the OA/TOF and CDH clinic for?

This clinic is run specifically for the long-term follow-up of children who were born with oesophageal atresia with and without tracheo-oesophageal fistula (OA/TOF) or congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).

It is known that many children who have had surgery for these conditions as a baby require ongoing care and careful monitoring by different professionals.

This clinic allows us to do this in a coordinated way and reduce the number of clinic appointments families need to attend by bringing all the necessary health professionals together for one appointment.

Who is present at the clinic?

  • Consultant paediatric surgeon who specialises in OA/TOF and CDH surgery
  • Consultant paediatric respiratory physician
  • Specialist paediatric dietician

What happens at the appointment?

Each professional will discuss with children and families how they are progressing, including any symptoms or ongoing problems they may have.

We will undertake a review of any medication being taken and usually examine the child.

Finally, we can plan and arrange any tests or ongoing treatment that is required.
