At MFT, we’re proud to take a proactive and inclusive approach to engaging with our local communities. This commitment plays a vital role in shaping a future-ready workforce. We’re dedicated to making the Trust a welcoming, supportive, and accessible place to work. Leading this effort is our Widening Participation Team, who work tirelessly to offer advice, guidance, and support to local individuals.
Our team’s remit ranges from vocational placements, pre-employment programmes and internships, through to the Greater Manchester NHS Careers Engagement Hub, which provides information about NHS careers across the region. In essence, we deliver programmes to help us attract and recruit local people to our vacancies, working closely with local schools, colleges and organisations to widen participation and increase access to our educational and career opportunities.

Partnership with the Kings Trust
If you’re under 30, we can offer tailored advice and guidance to help you explore your career options.
This includes one-to-one support with job searching, help completing applications, interview preparation, insight days, and access to training courses with work placements linked to live vacancies at our Trust or relevant apprenticeship programmes.
All of this is designed to boost your employability and could lead to a role with us—or another organisation in the sector.
We’re here to help.

Pre-Employment Programme
This rewarding and challenging programme is designed for individuals who are currently unemployed and interested in starting a career in health and social care.
It offers a valuable opportunity to build skills and gain hands-on experience right here at MFT.
If you’re accepted onto the programme, you’ll take part in five weeks of accredited learning, gaining a nationally recognised qualification followed by five weeks of work-based learning at the Trust—including shadowing and practical experience.

Work Experience

Our Work Experience programmes offer individuals a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into careers within health and social care at MFT.
Designed to support career exploration and informed decision-making, placements allow participants to observe professionals in real working environments, develop an understanding of key roles, and build confidence in a healthcare setting.
Whether you’re a student considering your future path or someone exploring a career change, this experience provides valuable exposure to both clinical and non-clinical areas of the Trust.
