Here you will be able to ask the ward clerks for your car parking permit, lockers for your personal belongings and breast pumps to loan for expressing. Our ward clerks are always very happy to help with anything.
There are two expressing rooms on the unit where you can peacefully sit and express your milk for your baby. There are a number of pumps that stay on the unit so that if you wanted to you can express at the cot side.
Ward round in the Intensive Care rooms happen between 9.00 am – 11.30 am. For this we ask that you do not visit due to confidential reasons, however you can be present for when the doctors are seeing your baby. Please ask your nurse about the ‘buzzer system’ and being around for that time.
There are two milk kitchens on the unit for the storage of your milk. When you begin to express you will be given a tray number. This is where you will store your milk for the rest of your stay, whether it’s in the fridge or the freezer. In these kitchens there are also sterilisers where you will be able to sterilise your expressing equipment, baby’s bottles and dummies. When your items have been sterilised you must remove the straight away with the tongues provided as this is an infection risk.
The kitchen is located to the right just before bedroom 1. There is a fridge, microwave, storage and a water dispenser, May we ask that you keep the facilities clean and tidy for others to use. The kitchen is for resident parents only. Please clearly label and only consume your own food and drink.
