Reception

Here you will be able to ask the ward clerks for your car parking permit, lockers for your personal belongings and breast pumps to loan for expressing.  Our ward clerks are always very happy to help with anything.

Please note that breast pumps are not loaned out at the Wythenshawe site. Please ask your nurse for further details.

Expressing rooms

Oxford Road Campus

There are two expressing rooms on the unit where you can peacefully sit and express your milk for your baby. There are a number of pumps that stay on the unit so that if you wanted to you can express at the cot side.

Wythenshawe and North Manchester

There is one expressing room on both units and we encourage mothers to express by their baby’s cot side.

Ward round

Oxford Road Campus

Ward round in the Intensive Care rooms happen between 9.00 am – 11.30 am.  For this we ask that you do not visit due to confidential reasons, however you can be present for when the doctors are seeing your baby.

Wythenshawe

Ward rounds start at 9.00 am and finish around 11.00 am. The times may alter if the unit is busy. You are encouraged to visit the ward round when your baby is being discussed with the team. We ask you to wait in the sitting room until your baby is seen and then leave the room until the ward round has finished. Other visitors are not allowed during the ward round.

 

North Manchester

Milk kitchens

There are two milk kitchens on the unit for the storage of your milk. When you begin to express you will be given a tray number.  This is where you will store your milk for the rest of your stay, whether it’s in the fridge or the freezer.  In these kitchens there are also sterilisers where you will be able to sterilise your expressing equipment, baby’s bottles and dummies.  When your items have been sterilised you must remove the straight away with the tongues provided as this is an infection risk.

Parents’ Kitchen

Oxford Road Campus

The kitchen is located to the right just before bedroom 1. There is a fridge, microwave, storage and a water dispenser, May we ask that you keep the facilities clean and tidy for others to use.  The kitchen is for resident parents only. Please clearly label and only consume your own food and drink.

Wythenshawe

The parents kitchen at Wythenshawe is located within the sitting room.
North Manchester
There is one milk kitchen on the unit plus fridges in rooms 1,3 and 4.

Parents’ Sitting Room

Oxford Road Campus

The sitting room is a quiet, comfortable area for parents to relax.  There are reading books for adults and children and a computer.  The login details are next to the computer or available from reception, should you require internet access. There is NO sleeping in the sitting room.  The sitting room is for parents only, therefore visitors are politely asked not to use this facility.

Wythenshawe

The sitting room is located away from the clinical area and is an area for you to go and relax. There is a television, a computer, water fountain, tea, coffee, fridge and microwave. Please be mindful that when you have visitors that other parents have priority over your visitors to access this room. Sleeping is not allowed in this room.

North Manchester

The sitting room is located to the right of the reception desk. There is a television and water fountain for you to use. Tea and coffee facilities, microwave and fridge are available for you to use in the parents kitchen.

Cafes and shops in and around the hospital please ask a member of staff.

Cash Machines can be found in the main entrance of the Children’s Hospital and inside Nisa on Hathersage Road.

Prayer Rooms are located in the Children’s Hospital:

  • Ground Floor – opposite out-patients.
  • First Floor – opposite Critical Care Unit.

There is also a multi faith centre on the ground floor in the MRI where spiritual support is available on demand for most faiths.

Fresh Fruit & Veg Stall – The Fruit Barrow in the atrium of the Children’s Hospital open Monday – Friday 8.30 am – 5.30 pm.

Cafes and shops are located in the hospital, including a Subway and Marks and Spencers, please ask a member of staff for details. There are vending machines in the Maternity entrance for hot and cold meals, snack and drinks. Please note hot food/drinks are not permitted at the cot side.

There is a cash machine located in the main hospital site next to the Moment To canteen.

The chaplaincy and prayer rooms are located on the Orange Route, 1st floor near the main stairs.

The Moment To restaurant is situated in the centre of the hospital. Moment To offers a selection of hot and cold food, sandwiches, drinks and snacks.
