The hours/shifts
Healthcare in this region really couldn’t work without our dedicated Booking & Scheduling Coordinators.
Typically, the Booking & Scheduling services at each of our hospitals operates Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm. Some sites may offer slightly earlier start and / or later finish times and some sites may operate over a weekend or on bank holidays. This will be discussed with you at interview stage so you can be clear on whether the working patterns meet your needs. If a working pattern does include evening, weekend or bank holiday shifts, there are unsocial hours allowances that would be paid in addition to your normal standard salary.
The specifics about the job
These vital roles are absolutely critical to the efficient running of our hospitals and community services. The job is varied, no two days are the same, depending on the patients you come into contact with and what support they need.
As a Booking & Scheduling Coordinator, you might work with patients who have a specific problem, anxiety about their visit or a difficult schedule to manage so having great listening skills with the ability to co-ordinate the computerised booking system, whilst using your practical and logical thinking skills will be critical to your success in one of these roles.

More broadly, you’ll need to be comfortable working as part of a team as well as working independently. Organisation, initiative, and team spirit are key, as are a hands-on approach and a willingness to go above and beyond to do what is required to ensure your area runs smoothly.
We understand that good care comes from everywhere, which is why you don’t need direct experience to apply. You could be working as a Customer Services Assistant, in sales, in a caring role or as an administrator. Your motivation however is that you always have a desire to help people and make a difference in our local community. If you can show us your compassionate nature and can-do attitude, we will help you transfer it into a healthcare setting.
But all in all, your calm, considerate, helpful and efficient persona will play a key part in supporting our patients with their visit to a designated hospital/community site for their appointment, procedure or treatment. After all, you’re the first point of contact they have with our Trust; so, making an excellent first impression is absolutely key.
In short, your daily goal will be to treat every person you come across with dignity, respect and kindness, plus patience is a must in this job.
This is just a small snapshot of the main tasks and skills that form part of these vital roles. Ultimately, there will be lots to think about before you decide it this is a job for you.
