Two hour group session
This is a two hour group provides an overview of critical appraisal techniques. Some pre-session reading of a journal article is required. This will be critically appraised in a group discussion in the second half of the session.
You will learn how to:
• identify different study designs used in research
• locate various critical appraisal checklist tools
• critically appraise a clinical trial and a systematic review
• interpret statistics commonly found in research articles such as P values, meta analysis, odds ratios, confidence intervals, forest plots diagrams
One hour individual (or small group) session
A one to one session on critical appraisal with a librarian
You will learn how to:
• identify different study designs used in research
• use a critical appraisal checklist tool to critically appraise a clinical trial or systematic review
• understand where to look for statistics commonly found in research articles and what they mean
