Jake Buckingham

Public Governor for Manchester Constituency

As a newly appointed governor, I will be assuming a role which allows me to oversee progress plans and improvements such as the modernisation of MFT, the embracing of progress and change to continue to deliver care effectively, and the allocation of trust funds in the most effective way possible within the constraints of a tough financial picture. It is my view that with the help of digitisation, integration of Artificial Intelligence and continuous work on recruitment and retention, we can help the service be better at helping us when we need it the most.

As for my own background, I am a professional airline pilot living in Manchester. Myself and my family have been reliant on NHS care for as long as I can remember, including in 2011 when my father almost lost his life in a motorcycle accident. This, and other personal and family based interactions with our Health Service, have made me passionate about the success, survival and future of the NHS.

I worked briefly as a COVID-19 vaccinator during my time away from flying in the pandemic and saw first hand how professional and dedicated the full time NHS staff
around me were. It inspired me to learn more about our NHS and educate myself in its struggles and successes as an institution. I am optimistic about the future of MFT, and excited to oversee enhancements which will benefit us all.
