The Manchester Cytology Centre remains one of six national pilot sites working with Public Health England Screening and NHS England to continue the implementation of High-Risk HPV testing into the NHS Cervical Screening Programme ahead of the national roll-out, which is planned for 2019.

Approximately 40% of the laboratory workload has beenconverted to HPV primary screening with the remainder using traditional cytology primary screening. Full conversion to HPV primary screening is expected to be completed by December 2019.

The Manchester Cytology Centre is located on the first floor of the Clinical Sciences Centre. Virology is located on second floor. All visitors should access the departments via the central reception area on the ground floor. The department is affiliated to the North of England Pathology and Screening Education Centre (Manchester) which is based on the ground floor of the Clinical Sciences Centre.
