Manchester Cytology Centre is one of eight large cervical screening laboratories in England. The department was selected as the preferred bidder to deliver the cervical screening service on behalf of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme for the North West region (Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire & Mersey) using high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing as the primary screening test.

The department is affiliated to the North of England Pathology and Screening Education Centre (Manchester). Cytology and Virology departments and the Education Centre are situated within the Clinical Sciences Centre at the Oxford Road Campus.

The Manchester Cytology Centre is located on the first floor of the Clinical Sciences Centre. Virology is located on the third floor. All visitors should access the departments via Central Reception on the ground floor.
