This page provides manuals, guidance, and downtime request forms for users of the Cytology ICE system within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

ICE (Integrated Clinical Environment) is the electronic system used for requesting and viewing cytology tests.

Requesting via GP Clinical Systems (EMIS Web/Vision)

These guides explain how to request cytology tests directly through your GP clinical system when connected to ICE.

For EMIS Web Users

For VISION Users

Use these guides if you make cytology requests through your GP clinical system. They explain how to ensure your system is connected to ICE and how to submit requests correctly.

Cytology ICE Desktop (for hospital and community users accessing ICE directly)

ICE Desktop is the stand-alone version of the Integrated Clinical Environment system. It is used in hospitals, community clinics, and other healthcare settings where users do not access ICE through a GP clinical system.

Who should use ICE Desktop?

  • Hospital departments without GP system access
  • Community sexual health clinics
  • Laboratory staff and other non-GP healthcare providers

Cytology ICE downtime forms

If ICE is unavailable, please use the manual request form.

Note: These forms should only be used during system outages or when instructed by Laboratory Medicine.
