Dr Shruti Garg
Nominated Governor - the University of Manchester
Nominated Governor for an Academic Institution
Term of Office: 3 Years – Ending at 2022 Annual/Special Members’ Meeting
I qualified as a doctor in 2003 and subsequently trained in psychiatry in Oxford and Leeds before moving to Manchester in 2008 for specialist training in child psychiatry. I have been a Consultant Child Psychiatrist since 2013 at MFT, leading a specialist service for children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
In August 2015, I was appointed as a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Translational Child Psychiatry at the University of Manchester where I run a research programme focused on developing new treatments for neurodevelopmental disorders. I sit on the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment Committee identifying research priorities in maternal and child mental health in the UK.
I am passionate that children’s mental health should be considered on a par with physical health. In my Governor role, I will endeavour to represent the views of young people, families and my fellow colleagues.
