Stephen Smurthwaite

Public Governor (Rest of England and Wales)

Public Governor for Rest of England and Wales

I have experience as a patient of the Trust having utilised Accident & Emergency, inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic services in the past. These experiences have provided me greater insight into how the Trust works, what is working well and what can be improved upon.

As a former NHS finance director and partner in an accounting firm, I have experience of working with fellow NHS directors, assisting them in improving their service plans and boosting their overall performance which has equipped me with the necessary skills to progress in my role as governor. As someone who’s retired, I can fully dedicate my time to seeking assurances from the Non-Executive Directors to truly get the best for the patients of MFT, in my first term as a governor for Rest of England and Wales.

Being a Governor will help me to ‘give back’ to the Trust as a thank-you for everything the NHS has done for me and ensure others in our community receive just as good or even better services.
