Dr Peter Gibson
Public Governor (Manchester)
Public Governor for Manchester Constituency
I have lived in Manchester for many years and am a retired doctor and a current patient (attending outpatients).
I retired in 2022 having previously worked as a Geriatrician (specialising in the care of older people) at North Manchester General Hospital since 1996. Prior to retirement I worked closely with the Orthopaedic Surgeons to care for patients admitted under their care (usually with a broken bone following a fall).
My areas of interest include patient safety, quality improvement, osteoporosis and implementation of the Accessible Information standards particularly for people with hearing impairment and learning disability.
My principles include a desire to improve the quality of care that patients experience, learning from mistakes and achieving goals through good team working.
Since being elected as a Public Governor in 2024, I have been very impressed by the culture of the organisation and the desire to improve the care given to patients.
Seeking appropriate assurances from Non-Executive Directors is a key duty of Governors which I will endeavour to undertake, alongside my Governor colleagues, on behalf of members and the wider public.
