Dr Matthias Schmitt
Staff Governor (Medical and Dental)
Staff Governor for Medical and Dental
Term of Office: 3 Years – Ending at 2020 Annual/Special Members’ Meeting
After qualifying as a doctor in 1994, I joined the NHS in February 1997 – initially as a junior doctor and since 2008 as a Consultant. I am a research-minded Cardiologist and have set up, developed and continue to lead one of the largest advanced cardiac imaging services in the UK. I’m an elected Board member for the British Association of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance, nationally responsible for peer review and clinical standards.
I’m passionate about the principles and values which underpin the NHS but recognise that these values are subject to regular review and re-commitment. I believe the reorganisation of the Manchester healthcare landscape under devolution will be vastly benefited if staff are actively engaged and look forward to representing the views and opinions of my fellow staff colleagues.
